TL;DR

The budget swamp cooler that mostly adds humidity to the room. I ran it in the same bedroom, on the same nights, against the same calibrated probe as every other unit in this round-up.

It is a real product that does a real job, and at $17.49 it will not ruin anyone's month. It just never gave me the one thing I wanted, which is cool dry air landing on me for a whole night without babysitting.

Who it is for, and who should skip it

Buy it if your situation is: a throwaway second unit for a camp table or shed.

Skip it if you sleep hot and expect the unit to carry a full night on one tank. That is where the ChillWell 2.0 pulled ahead by a wide margin, and it currently costs less than this unit's list price.

Materials and build

Plastics are what you expect at this price: light, moulded, a little flexy at the vent louvres. Nothing here felt fragile out of the box, but nothing felt like it wants a five-year life either.

The tank lid and pad access are the parts I watch, because those are the parts owners touch daily and the parts that fail first in reviews.

First hour out of the box

Setup was quick — fill, power, run. There is no install and no window kit, which is the whole appeal of this category.

Airflow out of the box was fine at the highest speed and thin on the low speeds, which is the pattern across every unit in this test except the #1 pick.

How it performed room by room

Bedroom: this is where it lost points. Sitting close, the first stretch felt genuinely cooler; by the middle of the night I was reaching for the fan speed again.

Desk: better. Close range, short sessions, no expectation of overnight endurance — that is the honest use case here.

Garage: not enough air movement to matter once the door had been open in the afternoon sun.

Evidence from other owners

Amazon shoppers have it at 2.8 stars across 2K ratings, and the recurring theme in the critical reviews matches what I measured: cooling fades, and it fades faster in a hot room.

I take large review counts seriously. When tens of thousands of buyers land on a middling average, that average is telling you something structural about the design, not about one bad unit.

Maintenance and durability

Dry the pad between uses or it will smell within a fortnight, and rinse the tank weekly. Evaporative units are all the same on this point.

Dust on the intake will strangle what airflow there is, so wipe the grille monthly.

Price and warranty

It was $17.49 on Amazon when I tested, which means you are covered by Amazon's normal return window — genuinely the strongest argument for buying this instead of a direct-to-consumer unit.

For context, the #1 ChillWell 2.0 was $55.54 during its 50% promotion, so on price alone this is not the bargain it first looks like.
